Mean Median Mode Range

Home Data Handling Mean Median Mode Range Measures Of Central Tendency The beginning of  statistics is to know the measures of central tendency and variability. At once, we will relate measure of center and variability over a range of data called the data distribution. These worksheets on mean, median, mode, range, and quartiles make you recognize the measure of center for a set of data. Let us discuss about each measure in detail: MeanThe average value of a set of numbers is called the mean. Add all the numbers to get a total and then divide the total by the number of entries. MedianThe middle number of a sorted data is called the median (ascending or descending data sample). When the data sample has odd entries pick the middle value where half of the data lies below and above the middle value. When the data sample has even amount of numbers, you have two median numbers. Here just add these numbers and divide them by 2. ModeThe data that appears more often in a data set is the mode. This measure can have more than one value for a set of data. RangeThe difference between the highest and lowest values in a set of data is called the range. QuartilesA quartile divides data into three points. They are lower quartile, median, and upper quartile to form four groups of the dataset. Lower quartile is also called as first quartile, second quartile as median and third quartile as upper quartile. The distance between the first quartile and the second quartile is called the interquartile range.

Pictographs

Home Data Handling Pictographs Pictograph Worksheets Pictograph worksheets or picture graph worksheets in this section teach children to represent data using pictures or symbols. This graphical representation is much easier as the numerical data collected is represented using pictures. Worksheets without key for beginners, with key for grade 2 through grade 6, reading, interpretting, and drawing pictographs are all given for practice. Also, worksheets to represent data using Tally marks and Pictographs and matching data to the given pictographs are here for best understanding of both these topics. You can download all these free pictograph worksheets for abundant practice.  Let us learn to represent the information on a picture graph The first step is to collect data. Example : Collect this data from your class. Suggest your friends 5 colors and ask them their favorite color. Lets consider 5 colors. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and Orange. Make a small table to record this information. With the given information, you can easily make a pictograph. Consider the key as 2. Select a simple picture for the pictograph. 8 students like Red color. According to the key 2 students can be represented using a picture. How many 2’s are in 8. Its 8/2 = 4. Use 4 pictures.7 students like Blue color. Now divide 7 by 2. 7/2 = 3.5 or 3 1/2. So we will use 3 full pictures which represent 6 students and 1 half picture representing 1 student. Similarly you can represent pictures for Green, Yellow, and Orange. Observations  The most preferred color- Yellow  The least preferred color- Green  The total number of students surveyed= 8+ 7+ 4+ 12+ 10 = 41 Here we have prepared worksheets according to the Common core Standards. Worksheets can be used from grade 1 through grade 6.  RELATED DATA HANDLING TOPICS  :   Tally marks Pictographs / Picture Graph Worksheets PDF

Bar Graph

Home Data Handling Bar Graph Bar Graph Worksheets A Bar Graph is defined as graphical display of data using rectangular bars. The bars can either be vertical or horizontal. Bar graphs with vertical bars are sometimes called vertical bar graphs. A bar graph will have two axes. One axis will describe the types of categories being compared, and the other will have numerical values that represent the values of the data. When the given data is represented horizontally by using rectangular bars that show the measure of data, such graphs are known as horizontal bar graphs. Bar graphs are also known as bar charts and it is a pictorial representation of grouped data. It is one of the ways of data handling. Bar graph is an excellent tool to represent data that are independent of one another and that do not need to be in any specific order while being represented. The bars give a visual display for comparing quantities in different categories. list of bar graph worksheets for free download Reading Bar Graphs Count and Draw Bar Graphs Draw and Interpret Bar Graphs Draw and Interpret Bar Graphs with Tally Marks Horizontal Bar Graph Double Bar Graph II Drawing Bar Graphs Read and Interpret Bar Graphs – I Bar Graphs and Tally Marks Read and Interpret Bar Graphs – II Double Bar Graph I

Tally Marks

Home Data Handling Tally Marks Tally Marks Tally marks are an easy way to represent information. Four vertical lines are drawn and the fifth line is a diagonal line which is drawn striking all the four vertical lines. We have Tally charts given for reference. Using these charts you will learn to represent the five lines accordingly. This becomes an easy graphical representation of data and is the first skill children learn in statistics. So in these worksheets, collecting, organizing, and interpretting data would be taught. We also need to analyse the data wherever necessary. Statistics therby develops the critical and analytical thinking of children making them to arrive to conclusions accurately.
